I am very happy to announce that the Petulant Peacock, one of my most popular and favourite paintings has won the competition to appear on the front of Artstyle Magazine‘s Spring 2016 cover. It was a tough competition but the Peacock received 322 likes/loves, 65 shares and 16,998 views on Facebook! It was certainly an amazing achievement for someone who is just launching as an artist! It was humbling to receive such lovely feedback and support. The magazine is out in the shops right now. I was interviewed on the winning post and my inspiration as well as a piece on premonition and art. I was asked to analyse a painting Reeva Steenkamp had drawn as a child. It was a very interesting project and I was glad to be able to give my opinion on this subject.
The peacock was inspired by its spiritual meaning which is somewhat similar to the phoenix which obtains new life by arising from the ashes. I walked out from my career as a marketeer to start a spiritual business and artist. It did feel like I was rising out of the ashes and rebuilding brick by brick. I was also fascinated by the peacock itself, not its “eye” or its colours but the male peacock which if you look close enough, looks rather cross probably due to the attention, which explains its title – the Petulant Peacock. I really enjoyed painting this and I have some beautiful prints available so do get in touch if you would like your very own copy!
